Caring about what others think of you can affect how you move forward in life. Why? Many are reluctant to do something new or engage in activity that can help improve themselves simply because they worry about what others may think of them. Some won’t take a stand or voice their opinion about something important out of fear of someone else’s thoughts.
You become different when you don’t fall in line with certain standards set by society. The thoughts and perceptions of others have integrated into parts of daily living. Partly, because many are insecure with themselves; they don’t know how to deal with them. Some have accepted such perceptions and as a result, push themselves further away from what they want in life or live a life unfulfilled. They just put on a front for others to look good.
Here are some points to help you think about what matters most when you have worries about what people may think about you.
Think about Your Life
Life is too short to be bothered by the negativity of others. Sure, sometimes it can be difficult to deal with hurt created by words from someone else. It can take a dramatic event to occur before you realize why life is so significant such as the loss of a loved one or a near death experience. Use the time you have to do something you are passionate about, something you want to do that makes you happy. If you hold back because of what someone said about you, you won’t grow as an individual, and you may face regret later not taking the opportunity to better yourself when you had it. You’ll constantly ask yourself questions such as “What if?” or “Why didn’t I?” Don’t wait too long to realize that other people thoughts didn’t matter in the first place.
Remember All of Us Have Flaws
Don’t forget people make mistakes. It is important to note this because we tend to pay too much attention to what others say about you. Sometimes a person cares too much about what is said about them to the point they feel as if something really is wrong with them when there isn’t. How stupid does this sound? People waste time judging others even though they are not in a position to judge at all. They are an imperfect human just like you. And guess what? They probably have people talking about them too! Keep your eyes on your potential. Block out such nonsense from haters (you don’t have time for it). Don’t worry about what others are saying about you. Focus on yourself and see how far you will go.
It’s Not That Serious Because They Don’t Really Care
Don’t allow yourself to get paranoid at the aspect of someone talking about you or what they think of you. People have a habit of wondering what someone else is thinking about them. In short, some spend too much time being opinionated and making judgments. It is completely ludicrous. People have interactions with people (it’s human nature), but often you center your life based on what you want not the wants of others. Then, you have those with plenty of insecurities; it is their problem to deal with not yours. You allow yourself to be you when realizing people don’t care; they don’t know you or your ambitions, and they are literally wasting time and energy thinking about stuff that may not be true.
Keep Your Mind on the Present
What do you have going on right now? Mindfulness can be a powerful tool to keep you mentally focused on whatever you are working to accomplish in your life. Keep focused on what you have going for you. Keep in mind what you want to do with your life and why it is important to you. Remind yourself of goals you want to achieve and where you want to be in the near future. Use your rational thoughts to fight any negative thoughts someone may throw at you. Have some affirmations to recite to yourself to keep your mental state productive. You can say something like, “They don’t know nor are they helping me get what I want in life. What I believe about myself is the best truth of all.” Now you’re all set.
Accept the Unknown and Mistakes
There is a level of uncertainty about what the future holds for you. Not knowing what happens next can be scary, but the aspect of possibly missing out on something good your life can benefit from is something you shouldn’t pass on. Just because people may talk about you shouldn’t be the reason not to pursue goals. No one is perfect, so we’re bound to make mistakes. It’s part of learning and taking the risk of moving toward the unknown. Just go with the flow and make mistakes; you gain experience in the process making for a better you. Before you know it, you’ll see what people said about you is insignificant to the bigger picture, your life.
